Why is this board so unpopular? (67)

Because of imagebabbies.

People aren't accustomed to using them now, though they're really pleasant once you witness the kind of garbage an imageboard can degenerate to. For all this site's obsession with getting rid of the normals, it's odd how few people acknowledge a textboard's efficacy in keeping them away.

The Textboard doesn't seem to have taken off after the initial flurry of activity following its introduction. It's definitely the red-headed stepchild of the active boards. The type of people that frequent textboards (https://txtchan.org) are quite different from your bread and butter imageboard posters, and I don't think there's enough of them that are also wizards for this place to not be relegated to a backwater. Textboards never really took off in the West; 4chan defeated world2ch early on in the English-speaking internet. You've got to remember though that Reddit is kind of a textboard, but its format hasn't proved resistant to normals. The look here is clunky, and the only Web 2.0ish textboard I know of is https://atob.xyz. Letterbox is nice, too. No images is fine (I won't have to hoard all the ones I come across), but the board should be appealing if you're going to spend most of your time on it. I prefer talkboards a la Otakutalk even though I don't use them. I think some day when current apprentices are old and gray this page will be the last legacy of wizardry online.

Given that Wizchan doesn't require the OP of a thread to upload an image, and that there are stylesheets, extensions, and browser addons that prevent any images from loading, people can browse the imageboard as if it were a textboard. The textboard format holds no advantages over an imageboard; an imageboard can act as a textboard but a textboard can not act as an imageboard, sort of...

I just know that when I make threads that are focused on discussion, I still prefer to make the thread on the imageboard because I usually like the images that people post. They can also embed videos and upload PDF files which can aid the discussion.

Yeah, an imageboard can be repurposed to be a decent textboard. Imageboard UI has just been refined more over the years by virtue of its popularity over the textboard I think. A minimal imageboard-textboard hybrid is kind of half-baked. I still think this board would be good for music threads with more discussion instead of just dumping though.

Can you recommend me any textboards with good communities for a very fucked up in the head wizard who wants company for his misery? I'm sick and tired of the normals on wizchan, it sucks. I have promised myself I would stop posting on wizchan and I intend to keep that promise, but I guess from the URL this is a different domain so it doesn't count.

I wish I could, but I can't in good conscience say I'm qualified to do so. I'm not a regular on textboards unlike with Wizchan, and they appeal to folks with a bit of a strange taste in my reckoning. Think the esoteric shitposting of Feels but different. You'll just have to look through them for yourself (nearly all of them are listed at https://txtchan.org and http://nigga.that.is-super.moe/overtext/). Letterbox (https://afternoon.dynu.com/letterbox.html) as aforementioned is a quite "comfy" place. 4-ch is the closest thing to 4chan in the English textboard world, and 4ct is a bit like 8chan. If you know Spanish, Bienvenido a Internet is for you. There's also two boards for nominal /prog/ramming discussion in the legacy of 4chan's axed textboard, world4ch. It's a bit of a shame you're more likely to find spam than actual serious discussion on most textboards, but on the flip side such frivolous, nonsensical posting means friends or non-virgin behaviorisms rarely come up even if the person on the other end is far from wizardly. Textboard admins/mods don't usually care enough to moderate their slow as molasses boards. This Wizardchan Premium Textboard, hosted on a different server from the main site, appears to actually be moderated regularly. Anyways, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

textboards are the ultimate normgroid's filter

Simple answer: popularity would ruin what makes them good. They're all fine as they are.

Realized I misread the question, but it still applies.

Do you guys visit other textbords http://www.txtchan.org/ they are all unpopular.

I guess, if the textboard had a decent, presentable stylesheet (now those ones with ugly ass monospaced/serif fonts), it could attract attention a bit more.

Both https://dis.4ct.org and https://dis.tinychan.org have some life, though.
